More Than 300 Dead In Pakistan Following Heavy Rains, Floods
Over 300 people have died in Pakistan following heavy rains and flash floods.
The National Disaster Management Authority confirmed the death toll on Saturday, warning that the number could rise.
Most fatalities occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a mountainous province, where people were killed by flash floods and collapsing houses. Twenty-one others were injured, and many remain missing.
This marks one of the deadliest periods of Pakistan’s monsoon season, which typically runs from June to September and is known for landslides and flash floods. Experts have linked the increasing frequency and intensity of such events to climate change.
Pakistan’s meteorological department has issued a heavy rain alert for the northwest, urging residents to take precautionary measures.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said civilian and military teams are conducting rescue and relief operations, offering condolences to the victims’ families and support to the injured.
Neighbouring India and Nepal have also experienced severe rainfall and flooding over the past week.
