Mr Ibu’s Ex-Manager Urges Govt to Grant Scholarships to Late Actor’s Children
Mr Dominic Nwuzor, former manager of the late Nollywood comic actor John Okafor, popularly known as ‘Mr Ibu’, has urged the Enugu State government to grant scholarships to the late actor’s children.
Nwuzor, Chief Executive Officer of Don Singles International, who managed the comic legend for over two decades until his passing in March 2024, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.
He called on the state government to support the children of the late actor, an indigene of Nkanu West, as part of efforts to promote education through targeted scholarships across Enugu.
“We have appealed for scholarship opportunities for the children, and will continue to do so, to ensure they get the needed education for self-reliance in the absence of the comic genius,” Nwuzor said.
He described Governor Peter Mbah as a leader with a “large heart” who values education, particularly for the vulnerable, expressing hope that he would consider the request.
Mr Ibu, who passed in March 2024, is celebrated as one of Nigeria’s most beloved comic actors.
Renowned for his unique comedic timing, expressive facial gestures, and portrayals of clumsy or foolish characters, he earned the nickname, “The Man Who Made Africa Laugh,” leaving a lasting legacy across the continent.
