MTN Owes Osun Over N900m In Dues – Telecom Consultant Alleges

….Frowns At Non-Compliance, Unpaid Bills

The consultant to the Osun State Government on telecommunications infrastructure, Mr Rotimi George Taylor, has alleged that MTN owes the state over N900 million naira in unpaid dues.

Taylor said the telecom companies operating in the state were not complying with relevant laws and regulations as well as having huge unpaid bills.

The consultant who is also the Chairman of Global Transactions Limited made the allegations while speaking with newsmen in Osogbo on Friday.

He explained that MTN has laid over 270 kilometres of cable in the state without paying any kobo to the state government.

According to Mr George-Taylor, “Many telecoms companies are not complying with the law. MTN has an outstanding bill in Osun State totalling over ₦900,000,000.”

He said, “The truth is that if telecoms companies are having issues, some of them are due to poor due diligence measures and corporate irresponsibility. The bills they are supposed to pay, they do not pay them, and this is why a naming and shaming policy has to be adopted.”

Taylor revealed that his company has reported the issue to the MTN headquarters in South Africa.

He urged the telecommunication companies operating in the state to settle their outstanding debts and comply with relevant laws and regulations.

When contacted for a reaction, MTN promised to get back.

“Your query is being attended to and feedback will be provided within 24 hours,” the message reads in part.
