Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has received a belated birthday present of a motor-controlled wheelchair.
Zimbabwean leader, 93, got the “mobile chair” from his cabinet ministers during a ceremony held at State House in Harare on Monday, APA reports.
The ministers said the wheelchair is meant to make it easy for Africa’s oldest leader to “navigate his way around the office and at home.”
Mugabe has lately struggled to walk, often becoming an embarrassment to his countrymen during foreign visits.
The present comes about a month after First Lady Grace Mugabe boasted that her husband will rule the southern African country “even from the grave”.
Two years ago, his wife Grace suggested that Mugabe would rule the country until he’s a hundred from a special wheelchair.
Cabinet ministers included a pen and a wristwatch made from 9-carat gold to their belated 93rd birthday gifts to President Mugabe.
But it’s a chair that’s got people talking: state ZBC radio initially said the President had been given what they called a mobile chair.
This immediately prompted speculation it was some kind of wheelchair.
But the ZBC later corrected its story, saying that the gift was in fact a massage chair.
