Family, friends, and colleagues bid a tearful farewell to Christianah Idowu, a 300-level student of Pure and Applied Botany at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), as she was laid to rest in Lagos.
The young student was abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road on August 19, a tragedy that has left her family devastated.
Her abduction and subsequent killing in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State caused immeasurable heartbreak to her loved ones and sparked outrage across the nation.
The Lagos State Police Command arrested 23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye, the prime suspect in her kidnapping and murder, which fueled public calls for justice.
Christianah’s death ignited a wave of outrage on social media, particularly on the platform X (formerly Twitter).
The hashtag #JusticeForChristianah trended widely, with popular figures like Nigerian music star Ayra Starr joining others in demanding accountability for the horrific crime.

In a show of solidarity, social media users raised N1,103,000 to support Christianah’s family with burial expenses.
Following an autopsy conducted by the police, her remains were released to her family for the final rites.
The burial took place on Thursday during a private ceremony at the Sabo Ikorodu Cemetery.
Meanwhile, the suspect remains in police custody and will be arraigned in court after the investigation is completed.
