Musk Slams Trump’s Tax And Spending Bill As ‘Disgusting Abomination’
Elon Musk has harshly criticised U.S. President Donald Trump’s newly passed tax and spending bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination” and saying he “can’t stand” the legislation.
The bill, which cleared the U.S. House of Representatives in May, introduces sweeping tax cuts and significant increases in defence spending, while raising the federal debt ceiling to $4 trillion.
In a series of posts on X, Musk denounced the bill as “outrageous” and “pork-filled,” warning it would balloon the already massive U.S. budget deficit to $2.5 trillion and burden Americans with unsustainable debt.
He declared that those who backed the bill were “wrong” and argued it undermined previous cost-cutting efforts by a government unit he once led, known as DOGE. Musk’s tenure in the Trump administration ended on 31 May, though Trump said Musk would continue supporting the team.
The bill also extends Trump-era tax cuts from 2017 and provides funding for mass deportations of undocumented immigrants.
Asked about Musk’s criticism, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, “The President already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill,” adding that Trump stands by what he called “one big, beautiful bill.”
Economists estimate the bill will increase the U.S. budget deficit by about $600 billion in the next fiscal year.
