My Husband Would Have Lived If He Had Listened To Me – Betty Akerdolu
The wife of Rotimi Akerdolu, the late former Ondo State Governor, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has said her husband would still be alive if he had heeded her advice instead of relying on spiritual healers.
Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), died on 27 December 2023 from complications related to prostate cancer.
Speaking in an interview with Star News publisher, Olumide Akinrinlola, on Thursday, Betty Akeredolu criticised the role of pastors and spiritualists in her late husband’s health decisions.

“What came out of their mountain climbing, blessed handkerchiefs, water, olive oil, etc., from the GOs and all the noisy prayers like people possessed by demons? If Aketi had listened to me, I wouldn’t be a widow,” she said.
She urged Nigerians to prioritise medical treatment over faith healing, warning that “a pastor is not a doctor; he understands nothing about cancer. He can only pray, and prayers don’t cure cancer. Consult a doctor—not just any doctor, but a doctor who specialises in cancer cases.”
On the state of the nation under President Bola Tinubu, she remarked, “Only those benefiting would say that. You don’t need a soothsayer to tell you that all is not well in the country.”
