My Son in APC by Choice, Says El-Rufai
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has clarified that his son, Bello, remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) out of personal conviction, despite being openly critical of the ruling party.
Bello currently represents Kaduna North in the House of Representatives.
El-Rufai made the remarks during an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Thursday evening, following an alleged attempt by the Department of State Services (DSS) to detain him at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport after returning from Egypt.
Speaking on his son’s political choice, El-Rufai, now a leading figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said Bello is mature enough to chart his own path.
“My son Bello was elected under the APC, and his constituents appear satisfied with his performance. Being over 30, he can make his own decisions. Politics is about personal preference,” he said.
He added that Bello’s decision to stay in the APC does not conflict with his own opposition to the party.
“If he wants to remain in the APC while avoiding the party’s wrongdoings, thanks to the values we instilled in him, then Alhamdulillah,” El-Rufai said.
