My Transformative Effort On Education Has Left An Indelible Mark In Osun – Aregbesola

The Former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, on Tuesday, said his transformative efforts in education, youth empowerment, and promotion of the Omoluabi ethos during his time as the governor of Osun State have left an indelible mark on the State.

Aregbesola who spoke in Osogbo through one of his aides, Ileowo Kikiowo, during the 10th Edition of the Teens Speak Out program, tagged “Teen Speakout 10.0”, said one of the significant achievements of his tenure was the launch of the “Opon Imo” (Tablet of Knowledge) initiative.

Kikiowo while delivering the speech of the former two-term governor of Osun State, said the project revolutionized education in the state by providing digital learning resources to secondary school students.

He said, “This occasion marks a significant milestone in our collective journey to empower the voices of our youth, and it is a privilege to share with you the transformative initiatives and vision that have not only reshaped education but also instilled in our youth the invaluable Omoluabi ethos—a cornerstone of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s public life.

“As we gather here today, it is essential to acknowledge the transformative journey of education in Osun State under the visionary leadership of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. His dedication to education reform has left an indelible mark on our state, setting a precedent for innovative approaches to learning, youth empowerment, and the inculcation of the Omoluabi ethos.

“One of the most remarkable achievements during Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s tenure was the launch of the “Opon Imo” (Tablet of Knowledge) initiative. This groundbreaking project revolutionized education in Osun State by providing digital learning resources to secondary school students. The Opon Imo was not just a tablet; it was a comprehensive e-learning platform, a portal to knowledge that transformed the way students learned and engaged with their study materials.

“Through the Opon Imo, students had access to a vast library of textbooks, tutorials, and past examination questions. It democratized education, ensuring that every student, regardless of their economic background, had an equal opportunity to excel academically. This initiative was not just about technology; it was about levelling the playing field, bridging educational disparities, and giving our youth the tools they needed to succeed.”

Speaking further, Aregbesola noted that Omoluabi ethos—a set of moral and ethical values that emphasize integrity, diligence, respect for others, and a strong sense of community was promoted during his tenure as governor, adding the principles have been woven into the fabric of Osun State’s education system and instilled a deep sense of responsibility, empathy, and good citizenship in the youths.

“In addition to these transformative educational initiatives, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has tirelessly promoted the Omoluabi ethos—a set of moral and ethical values that emphasize integrity, diligence, respect for others, and a strong sense of community. These principles have been woven into the fabric of Osun State’s education system, instilling in our youth a deep sense of responsibility, empathy, and good citizenship.
Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s dedication to youth empowerment and education reform has made him a staunch supporter of programs like Teen Speakout 10.0. He understands that nurturing the next generation of leaders requires providing them with platforms to develop their oratory, advocacy, communication skills, and, most importantly, a strong foundation in the Omoluabi ethos,” he added.

The former minister while commending the organizers of the program, said the significance of Teen Speakout 10.0 lies not only in the competitions and contests but also in the lifelong skills it imparts on the youth, adding that programs like this will help to harness the potential of the youth.

He said, “Teenagers, often seen as the torchbearers of change, possess a unique perspective, unbridled enthusiasm, and innovative ideas that can drive national development to new heights. Their voices, ideas, and actions are invaluable assets in addressing the challenges facing our society. By nurturing their communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and a deep appreciation for public discourse, we are not just preparing them for the future; we are equipping them to contribute to national development today.

“The success of any nation hinges on its ability to harness the talents and energy of its youth. We must provide them with the platforms, tools, and guidance needed to unleash their potential and actively participate in shaping our collective destiny. Teen Speakout 10.0 stands as a testament to this cause, and we must continue to champion the cause of youth empowerment and engagement in national development.

“Together, let us amplify the voices of our teenagers and empower them to become the driving force behind the positive transformation of our beloved nation.”

Earlier in his welcome address, Olasupo Abideen, founder, Brian Builders Youth Development Initiative, said the program was to ensure teenagers contribute to issues of national development.

Abideen who said Aregbesola is the champion of this year’s program appreciated the former minister for believing in the potential of the youth.

He said, “It’s an academic competition where we have teenagers within the age bracket of 13-19 years old come to speak on issues of national development. We are of the opinion that when we talk about development, young people should also have a seat at the table to see ways through which these things are affecting them too.

“We want to ensure that the communication skills of these young students are built. We want young people to be able to critically assess the policies of the government and make positive contributions whenever necessary. We look forward to when the state government will see this program as its own and encourage the winners.”
