The Nigerian Air Force said on Saturday it killed scores of the Islamic State West Africa Province fighters who gathered inside buildings at Tumbun Hamma on the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno State.

The bombings were carried out by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole on Friday after the terrorists earlier fled the air strikes conducted by the Nigerien and Chadian forces around the Malkanori-Tumbun Rego area of northern Borno.

The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, who confirmed the killing of ISWAP elements in a statement, said the attacks were preceded by Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions which identified a heavy presence of the terrorists in several buildings in the area.

Daramola said, “The Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole has inflicted heavy casualties on ISWAP elements in devastating air strikes conducted at Tumbun Hamma on the fringes of Lake Chad.

“The NAF, operating in concert with surface forces, will sustain its operations to completely degrade the terrorists in the North-East.”
