The Joint Campus Committee of the National Association of Nigerian Students Oyo State Axis has called on the authority of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) to reverse the expulsion of twelve of its members to avoid lockdown of activities in the school.
The committee also requested the school to stop its plan to hike the institution’s tuition es describing the action as inhuman and a deliberate act of injustice against the student population in the state.
A statement signed by the JCC Chairman, Comrade Moronkola Teslim disclosed that the over 60,000 students’ population in Oyo state will not hesitate to invade LAUTECH if the school failed to meet its demands as a means of showing solidarity with oppressed students of the institution.
The statements reads: “We are aware of the situation in which the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology is in right now and for the sake of the records our intervention is due. Therefore, we are coming for the purpose of liberating the Students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.
“Yes, we’re coming, we hereby call on the Over 60,000 Students across the 17 tertiary institutions in Oyo State to mobilize as we storm LAUTECH to effect the reinstatement of our members and register our displeasure in respect of the proposed increment.
“The President of NANS has received the provocative news about the rustication of LAUTECH Students for registering their displeasure and the plan to hike the tuition fees.
“The unlawful rustication is dead on arrival and it is condemned as the DSA will received the leadership of the organisation and ready for the mass arrest he had been putting in place because our gallant comrades have been arriving Ogbomosho the host community of LAUTECH over the ugly rustication and systematic hike in LAUTECH Tuition.
“It is quite unfortunate that students journalists can no more express their opinions again on campuses without ending up being victims of oppression and victimisation.
“The loss we have suffered by losing many potential writers and journalists to rustication, expulsion, suspension and the likes could not be be withstand anymore. We so consider the decision of the Senate to hike the tuition and Lunching of No School Fee, No Exam is very repugnant to the principle of natural justice, equity, good conscience and peaceful coexistence.
“We therefore condemn in totality this attempt to gag the future leaders in this era of NOT TOO YOUNG TO RULE”.
