Nasarawa Gov To Appeal Tribunal Verdict
The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, says he will appeal the judgement of the election petitions tribunal that nullified his victory at the poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Sule as winner of the governorship election held on March 18 after polling 347,209 votes.
But on Monday, the tribunal annulled Sule’s victory after two out of the three judges on the panel declared David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) as the winner.
Ibrahim Mashi, the third member of the tribunal, dismissed Ombugadu’s appeal.
Reacting to the verdict, Sule described it as a “temporary setback”.
The governor asked his supporters to remain calm and not engage in protests over the development.
“I still remain the governor till the supreme court decides otherwise because the law allows me to appeal and we will do that to reclaim our mandate,” NAN quoted him as saying.
