Natasha Petitions IGP, Accuses Akpabio of Smear Campaign Over Sexual Harassment Claims

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of masterminding a coordinated smear campaign to discredit her and silence her sexual harassment allegations.

The petition, submitted through her legal team led by Dr. Ehiogie West-Idahosa (SAN), alleges that her safety, reputation, and political career are under attack in what she describes as a “malicious campaign of criminal defamation, cyber-stalking, conspiracy, and attempted assassination” orchestrated by Akpabio.

Her lawyers stated that they have “incontrovertible evidence from public broadcasts, witness testimonies, media reports, and expert analyses” to back the claims.

They said the smear campaign began shortly after Senator Natasha publicly accused Akpabio of sexual harassment on live television on February 28, 2025.

The petition highlights how a previously unknown woman identified as “Prof. Mgbeke” started with sympathetic posts on Facebook but turned around to launch a coordinated character attack on Natasha after she declined any form of “transactional engagement.”

Senator Natasha later identified “Prof. Mgbeke” as Dr. Sandra Chidinma Duru, a Nigerian based in Texas, following a live broadcast on May 1, 2025, and further journalistic investigations.

She stated that she had never heard of Sandra Duru until law enforcement asked her to identify the woman.

The petition claims that during the May 1 broadcast, Dr. Duru mistakenly exposed her phone’s call log, which contained saved contacts such as “My Daddy Directline,” “IGP Kayode,” “Senator Akpabio” (with two different numbers), and “Oby Ndukwe,” among others.

Natasha’s lawyers said these contacts suggest collaboration between Duru, Akpabio, and possibly some high-level security officials.

A Senior Legislative Aide to Akpabio, Monday Ubani (SAN), was also mentioned in the petition for praising “Prof. Mgbeke” after her controversial broadcast.

The legal team said this further shows “insider awareness and tacit approval from Akpabio’s inner circle.”

The petition also highlighted a disturbing accusation made by Duru, who claimed Senator Natasha was part of a conspiracy to “remove the Yoruba government.”

Natasha’s lawyers described the allegation as treasonous and a calculated ethnic incitement meant to provoke security backlash and public hostility.

Natasha said Dr. Duru began attacking her after she refused to pay her for what she called “narrative management” and digital support.

According to the petition, Duru’s demands for financial compensation were rejected, after which she resorted to blackmail and cyber-attacks.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended from the Senate in March 2025 for six months over alleged misconduct.

However, critics say her suspension was a politically motivated attempt to silence her sexual harassment claims against Akpabio.

The petition describes Duru’s Facebook broadcast as “a classic case of criminal defamation and cyberstalking” and cited it as evidence of a larger, organised attempt to destroy Natasha’s image.

The lawyers argue that Duru’s actions violated Section 391(1) of the Penal Code and Section 24(1) of the Cybercrimes Act.

The petition stated that Duru’s claim that Natasha was plotting to overthrow the Federal Government by removing Akpabio and dismantling a so-called “Yoruba government” was a deliberate falsehood crafted to inflame public sentiment.

Natasha’s legal team said the entire episode is a retaliation campaign driven by personal grievance and a bid to suppress her voice.
