THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Osun Command, has arrested two persons suspected to be drug traffickers with 44kg of Cannabis Sativa.
The suspects, Tope Ajayi (30) and Terameyu Abdulhakeem (50) were arrested at two different locations in the state.
Speaking with OSUN DEFENDER on the arrest, the Public Relations Officer of NDLEA in the state, Charles Odigie, said Ajayi was arrested with 18kg of cannabis sativa on March 4, 2023 at Area 5 in Ife South Local Government during a raid operation on his residence.
Odigie said the agency conducted a detailed surveillance which lasted three months before Ajayi was apprehended by a team led by him.
He said Ajayi has been charged to court.
According to him: “NDLEA Osun State Command Officers carried out a raid operation at Area 5 in Ife South LGA on the 4th of March 2023 around 12.30 am and arrested one TOPE AJAYI “m” 30 years of age with 18 kilograms of cannabis sativa.
“We conducted a detailed surveillance on him which lasted 3 months and he has been charged to court”.
The second suspect, Abdulhakeem, according to Odigie, was arrested on March 20, 2023 by officers of the Nigeria Army, ‘Operation safe conduct’ at a checkpoint along Ogbomoso-Ejigbo road.
He said Abdulhakeem was arrested with 26kg of foreign cannabis sativa (skunk) and was later transferred to the NDLEA office in Osogbo.
Investigation was said to be ongoing on Abdulhakeem’s case.
He stated: “Officers of the Nigeria Army on operation safe conduct arrested one Teramiyu Akeem “m” 50 years of age with 26-kilograms of foreign cannabis sativa (skunk) and transferred him to the NDLEA with an hummer bus on the 20th March 2023 and investigation is on going.
“He will be charge to court as soon as investigation is complete”.
He stated that the Osun Commander of the NDLEA, Chidi Nnadi, has warned drug traffickers in the state to desist from the business or relocate, noting that anyone caught with hard drugs shall be prosecuted.
