The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLA) arrested a drug syndicate that specialises in concealing narcotics in strange containers, particularly Indomie Noodle cartons.
According to Sahara Reporters Yakubu Kibo, the Adamawa State Commander of the agency, made the revelation on Wednesday.
Kibo said that besides Indomie Cartons, the syndicate also conceals illicit drugs in car door compartments, brainbox and spare tires.
He said operatives from his command had a bloody clash with members of the cartel, who operate within the Jambutu Motor Park.
He recounted how the cartel attempted to resist apprehension by violently attacking operatives from the state command, but his men overcame the “criminals” after demobilising them.
“When we got a tipoff that a cartel was operating within the Jambutu Motor Park, we disguised with unmarked vehicles but when the hoodlums noticed our men they became wild and violent,” he said.
“They rose against my men with all sorts of weapons in an effort to stop us from effecting arrest. But we prevailed against them by demobilising them, and right now we have them in our custody.”
On how the NDLEA found out that the guys were concealing drugs in unusual containers, Kibo said: “Our intelligence unit found out about the trick, and so swooped on them immediately.
“When we arrested them, we found tramadol tablets concealed in Indomie Cartons, car door compartments and spare tyres.
“The drugs concealed in door compartments were cough syrop with cordine, while cocaine was concealed in car brainbox. This is how this criminals are devising new ways of carrying out their illicit trade, but we want to assure the public that we will always be ahead of them.”
SaharaReporters also disclosed that the drug barons were being aided with information by some security operatives, including men of the same NDLEA.
