NDLEA Operative Killed During Drug Raid, Six Arrested
Chief Narcotic Agent, Sadiq Bako Mujahid of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has died following a violent confrontation during a raid on the notorious Ama Hausa drug enclave in Bonny Island, Rivers State.
The operation, conducted on Friday, February 6, 2026, led to the arrest of six suspects and the seizure of a large cache of illicit drugs, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, and tramadol.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said Mujahid sustained severe head injuries after one of the suspects, gang leader Genesis George Benson, mobilised armed hoodlums to attack operatives. Mujahid was rushed to Bonny Island General Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Other suspects arrested include ThankGod Okon, Shamsudden Isah, Muhammed Musa, Adamu Muhammed, and Muhammed Yusuf.
Reacting to the incident, NDLEA Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) praised the bravery of the operatives, stating, “Even after the cowardly attack on Mujahid, our officers ensured the assailants were overpowered and arrested, and their illicit substances confiscated. Their sacrifice will not be in vain.”
Marwa described Mujahid as a disciplined and courageous officer who “paid the ultimate price in service to his fatherland” and warned that attacks on NDLEA personnel would not go unpunished.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to eradicating illicit drugs across Nigeria.
