NDLEA Warns Of Intoxicating Candies, Sweets In Circulation
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State has warned parents about the circulation of sweets and candies suspected to contain intoxicating substances, urging parents to be more vigilant about what their children consume.
The agency’s Public Relations Officer, ASN Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, stated in an interview that the suspected sweets, which look like chocolate, are believed to contain intoxicating layers.
He warned that these products are being sold to unsuspecting schoolchildren and called on parents to be observant.
“Parents should be on the lookout if they notice changes in their children’s behaviour.
The signs to watch for include sudden changes in eating habits and sleeping patterns,” he said.
The NDLEA’s warning comes amid growing concerns over new psychoactive substances disguised with deceptive names such as “Suck & Die,” “Rubber Solution,” “Dead Man,” and “Gelato.”

These substances have been seized in recent operations in Lagos and Kano, raising alarm over their increasing abuse among young people.
In a major crackdown on illicit drug activities, the NDLEA’s Kano State Command carried out raids on 30 January 2025.
The operation targeted known drug hotspots, including Fagge, Kwarin Kaya, Kofar Wambai, and Kofar Mata.
During the operation, 18 suspects were arrested, and significant quantities of illicit substances, including Cannabis Sativa and Rubber Solution, were confiscated.
Maigatari stressed that the agency remains committed to tackling drug-related offences and ensuring the safety of young people.
He urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to play an active role in protecting children from exposure to harmful substances.
The NDLEA also called on school authorities to be more proactive in monitoring students and reporting any suspicious activities.
