New Army Chief Assumes COAS Duty
Major General Farouk Yahaya on Friday assumed duties at Nigeria’s new Chief of Army Staff.
Yahaya takes over as the 22nd Chief of Army Staff following his appointment on Thursday by President Muhammadu Buhari to replace the late Lt. Gen Ibrahim Attahiru who died in a plane crash in Kaduna State last week Friday.

This was contained in statement on Defence Headquarters verified tweeter account @DefenceInfoNG, sighted by Osun Defender Correspondent in osogbo on Friday.
Prior to his appointment, Major General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigeria Army and Theatre Commander of the Counterterrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East code named Operation HADIN KAI.
Yahaya was born in Sifawa, Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto state. He is married and blessed with children. He belongs to the Regular Course 37.
