Newly Posted DPO Shot Dead Two Days After Resuming Office

Tragedy struck in Delta State as the newly posted Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division, CSP Jega was shot dead by suspected kidnappers just two days after resuming his new role.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Monday when the DPO and his men were ambushed during a kidnap rescue operation.

Sources told PUNCH that CSP Jega, alongside the DPO of Orerokpe Division, CSP Paul, led a joint police team on a mission to rescue kidnap victims near the Agbarho rail station.

The operation quickly turned deadly when they were met with a barrage of gunfire from the suspected kidnappers, who ambushed them at the scene.

During the fierce exchange, CSP Jega and some of his men were killed, while CSP Paul narrowly escaped death. He was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors are battling to save his life.

According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the ambush resulted in the death of the DPO, while others survived the attack.

“They were ambushed. But it’s only the DPO that we lost,” he stated.
