NGO Speaks To Osun Residents On Abandonment Of Female Genital Mutilation
A Non-Governmental Organisation, Action Health Incorporated, has harped on the need to eradicate Female Genital Mutilation in Osun State.
The Organisation, supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in collaboration with the state government, on Thursday, organised a community dialogue with leaders and stakeholders in Egbedore Local Government Area of the state on the need to eradicate FGM.
Speaking at the programme, a representative of Action Health Incorporated, Fatimah Idris, noted that the dialogue was to enlighten the community about the danger of mutilating their girl child.

Idris disclosed that four local governments were selected in Osun for the programme which started on Wednesday.
According to her, “The program is on community dialogue on female genital mutilation in four towns in Osun State. It is a gathering among community leaders and stakeholders.
“What we do is to enlighten the community on the danger of female genital mutilation and the need for them to eradicate the practice. They also bring their contributions on the issue.”
“Our campaigns have been yielding positive results. We have been receiving success stories of people who wanted to mutilate their girl child but changed their opinion after our campaign.
“Also, record have shown that issue of female genital mutilation has decreased in Osun State. So, there has been a great impact.”
