A WhatsApp-based Artificial Intelligence chatbot named Amoye has been launched in Osun State to give citizens instant access to verified local government data and promote transparency at the grassroots.

OSUN DEFENDER gathered that the innovation under the OsunOpenLG 2.0 initiative of the Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development (IICSD), is aimed at deepening accountability and civic participation in local governance.

Speaking at the launch, the Executive Director of IICSD, Jare Tiamiyu, said the chatbot was designed to make local government information more accessible and interactive for citizens.

“With just a WhatsApp message, anyone can now ask Amoye questions about their local government — budgets, leadership, and projects as well as get verified answers in real time,” Tiamiyu explained.

He said Amoye represents the next phase of the OsunOpenLG project, which in its first edition covered all 30 Local Government Areas and trained over 60 community advocates to promote openness and accountability in the state.

Tiamiyu credited the success of the project to the Nigerian Youth Futures Fund (NYFF) through LEAP Africa.

He said the OsunOpenLG 2.0 platform, alongside Amoye, would help bridge the communication gap between citizens and their local councils, while promoting participatory governance.

“Our mission remains clear. To make transparency a habit and accountability a culture at the grassroots level,” Tiamiyu noted.
