Nigeria Under Tinubu Is A Crime Scene With Widespread Stealing – Peter Obi
The former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has described Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a “crime scene,” accusing the government of widespread corruption.
Obi made this statement during a memorial event for the late statesman Edwin Clark, on Wednesday, where he also criticised the leadership of Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking about the state of the country, Obi said, “What we see today is stealing, stealing, stealing. We have a country now that’s not democratic. Let’s tell ourselves the truth.”
According to Obi, the sacrifices of past leaders, including former military head of state Yakubu Gowon, have been rendered in vain by the current government’s actions.
“General Gowon, you sacrificed everything. But the country you people sacrificed for has become a crime scene.”
He also questioned the legitimacy of recent elections, stating, “Election that happened in Edo, is it democratic? Everybody knows who won that generation. So why are we saying let their work not be in vain? We can start picking the pieces now because they’ve destroyed everything people have sacrificed for.”
Earlier in January, Obi had also accused the Nigerian government of harbouring corrupt officials, remarking, “For governance, don’t think when we talk about vices, it is only Yahoo boys. There are actually more Yahoo people in government than there are outside because we have turned the entire country into a crime scene where people inside are stealing and people outside are stealing.”
Obi’s comments were made against the backdrop of increasing accusations of corruption within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with Senator Ali Ndume also claiming that the government is harbouring kleptocrats.
