Nigerian Among Dozens Injured in Iranian Missile Attacks on UAE
At least one Nigerian is among dozens of people reported injured in recent Iranian missile attacks on the United Arab Emirates, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The UAE Ministry of Defence said the strikes were part of Iran’s retaliatory actions, following claims that the Gulf country allowed the United States to use its military bases for operations against Tehran.
In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry disclosed that since the conflict began on February 28, its air defence systems detected 262 ballistic missiles from Iran.
Of these, 241 were intercepted, 19 fell into the sea, and two hit UAE territory.
Authorities also recorded 1,475 Iranian drones, intercepting 1,385, while 90 landed within the country. Eight cruise missiles were detected and neutralised.
The attacks left six people dead, including citizens of the UAE, Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh, while 122 others sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
The injured are from several nationalities, including the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, the Comoros, Türkiye, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Jordan, and Palestine.
The UAE has not specified the exact number of casualties per nationality.
