Army Speaks On Lagbaja’s Resignation Amid Assassination Rumors

The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports claiming that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, has resigned following an alleged assassination attempt.

An online report had circulated, alleging that Lt Gen Lagbaja submitted his resignation letter to President Bola Tinubu, just 24 hours after surviving an attack on his life.

The report also claimed that his resignation had caused confusion within the military hierarchy.

However, responding to the rumor on Monday, the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, categorically refuted the claims, calling it “fake news.”

“It is fake news; please disregard it,” Nwachukwu said.

Lt Gen Lagbaja, appointed as the 23rd Chief of Army Staff by President Tinubu on June 19, 2023, remains in office.
