Nigerian hip-hop musicians, Omah Lay, Tems and one Muyiwa Awomiyi have been remanded in a Ugandan prison for featuring in shows in the country against Covid-19 rules.
They were charged to court on Monday and have now been remanded in Kitalya Prison custody, till Wednesday, December 16, 2020 for appearance.
According to the Uganda police they were charged with negligent act likely to spread the infectious disease.
The police also tweeted about the update on the arrest and prosecution. “The Nigerian trio of Stanley Omah Didia alias Omah Lay, Temilade Openyi alias Tems and Muyiwa Awomiyi have been charged to court in Makindye on charges of Negligently doing acts likely to spread an infectious diseases C/S 171 of the Penal Code Act.”
Prominent Nigerian celebrities including, Burna Boy, Peter Okoye, Simi, Laycon and others have pleaded for their release.
Meanwhile, Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has hinted that plans are in top gear to secure their release.
