Nigerian Doctor Becomes GWR’s New World Record Holder For Largest Drawing

Dr. Fola David-Tolaram, a Nigerian doctor and visual artist, has achieved a Guinness World Record for creating the largest individual drawing, measuring 1,004.7 square meters (about 10,814.5 square feet).

Guinness World Records confirmed the achievement on its website Thursday.

The 1,004.7 m² (10,814.5 ft²) artwork drawn at Lagos’s Mobolaji Johnson Arena, reflects Nigeria’s cultural diversity.

David-Tolaram, 31, crafted a map of Nigeria that celebrates the nation’s various cultures, symbolizing his passion for art and his homeland. The drawing’s size is equivalent to 3.8 tennis courts.

He said: “Nigeria is a multi-cultural nation. I wanted to create something that speaks to that and give people an avenue to celebrate their cultures.”

His artwork, titled The Unity of Diversity, celebrates Nigeria’s rich heritage by depicting the country’s food, clothing, festivals, and music, encapsulating the unique beauty of its diverse traditions.

Before beginning the massive project, David-Tolaram travelled across Nigeria to immerse himself in the various cultures that would inspire his work.

Reflecting on this journey, he shared, “It was this experience that I brought to the stadium to create this drawing.”

The six-day endeavor was completed on a 1,360-square-meter canvas, with waterproof markers.On the confirmation of the World Record, Dr. Fola expressed his pride in the achievement.

“Holding a Guinness World Records title is absolutely unbelievable. I grew up reading about world records and never thought that I would be a record title holder.

“I’m still trying to process the emotion of this entire thing, but I feel very honoured, distinguished, and Officially Amazing,” he said.
