Apo Killing:  Court sentences Policemen To Death

An Abuja High Court yesterday sentenced two police officers, Ezekiel Acheneje and Emmanuel Baba, to death over their involvement in the killing of six Igbo traders in Abuja on June 8, 2005.

The two policemen were found guilty of extra-judicial killing of Augustina Arebon and Anthony Nwokike.

Rising Reserves Boost CBN Firepower To Pursue Forex Reforms

The continued surge in the country’s external reserves occasioned by increase in output and oil prices is seen as a confidence boosting for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to pursue its foreign exchange policies. Ohanaeze, Others Flay Judge’s Verdict On Killing Of Igbo Traders

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) sentenced two police officers to death yesterday for killing two of six igbo traders in Apo, Abuja on June 8, 2005. But the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, said yesterday that there was nothing to cheer about in the judgment which it described as falling short of the justice expected.

After spending nearly two months in the United Kingdom on medical vacation, President Muhammadu Buhari is now expected back in the country today.

A statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, in Abuja, on Thursday night, confirmed the president’s date of arrival.
