Nigeria’s crude oil production experienced a slight decline in December 2024, despite retaining its position as Africa’s leading oil producer.

According to the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Nigeria’s daily crude oil production averaged 1.485 million barrels per day (bpd) in December, a marginal 1 percent drop from the 1.486 million bpd recorded in November.

The figures, which were obtained through direct communication with Nigerian authorities, highlight the nation’s efforts to maintain its output amidst fluctuating global energy markets.

However, secondary sources cited by OPEC indicated a slightly higher production of 1.50 million bpd for December, showcasing a marginal improvement from the previous month’s figure of 1.47 million bpd.

Despite the marginal dip, Nigeria remains unshaken as Africa’s largest oil producer, outperforming Algeria, which recorded an output of 909,000 bpd in December.
