Nine Governors Sign States’ Budget Into Law

The governors of Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Bauchi, Cross River, Kano, Ondo, Osun and Yobe states yesterday signed their 2024 budgets into law.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Friday signed the 2024 budget into law.

The Governor after signing the budget, promised to ensure full implementation for the benefit of the state and her people.

The total approved budget is Two Hundred Seventy-Three Billion, Eight Million, Nine Hundred Ninety-Seven Thousand Naira, Four Hundred and Ten Kobo.

In Adamawa, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri signed the state’s budget of N225.893 billion for 2024.

The budget Tagged ‘Budget of Reengineering’, has N111.3bn representing 49.3% as recurrent expenditure while N114.5bn representing 50.7% for capital expenditure.

The budget which is higher than N214.2bn of 2023 is articulated on the current economic indicators of oil production bench mark of 1.78 million barrels per day.

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom signed the N840.6 billion financial appropriation for the 2024 fiscal year into law.

The governor at the last State Executive Council (SEC) meeting for the year 2023, according to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Iniobong Ememobong, endorsed the document.

Speaker of the House of Assembly, Elder Udeme Otong; the clerk, chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation and other principal officers of the House joined the executive team to witness the signing ceremony of the budget made up of N352.737 billion recurrent and capital estimate of N487.895 billion.

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State also assented to the 2024 approved budget estimate of N300.2bn.

Speaking at the council chambers, Government House, Bauchi, the governor said the budget epitomises his administration’s desire to set a trajectory to meet its vision for equitable development of the state and its people.

He said the administration has deliberately set in place a plan to develop an infrastructure base to sustainably grow the economy going into the future through developing the human capital resources of the state through the prioritisation of education, healthcare delivery and provision of other basic social services among others.

Governor Mohammed also assented to bills for a Law to Provide and Protect the Rights of the Child in Bauchi State and Other Related Matters 2023, a Law to Amend the Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable Children Law 2023, among others.

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia also yesterday signed into law the 2024 Appropriation Bill of N225.7bn.

The governor in an address said the 2024 budget christened budget of infrastructure development, job creation, and poverty alleviation draws life from the policy document tagged; “A Strategic Development Plan for a Greater Benue.”

Cross River State Governor Bassey Edet Out also signed the state’s budget of N296.9billion into law. The budget has a capital expenditure of N180 billion and recurrent expenditure of N116 billion.

While signing the budget, Otu said the increase was predicated on the need to provide adequate financial support for people living with disabilities.

Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, signed into law, a budget of N437 billion for 2024.

The bill was signed after being passed by the House of Assembly recently.

The budget comprises 64 percent capital expenditure and 36 per cent recurrent expenditure.

The governor also expressed gratitude to speaker of the House of Assembly for his dedication to ensuring that the budget becomes a reality.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State also signed the state’s 2024 budget into law

The budget totalling N395, 257 billion was signed at the Exco chamber governor’s office in Akure, after it was passed by the State House of Assembly.

Aiyedatiwa had earlier presented a total Budget of N384,533 billion for the 2024 fiscal year to the Assembly. The approved budget was increased by N10,724,,000,000 billion.

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni signed into law the 2024 Appropriation Bill passed by the House of Assembly.

Buni thanked the Assembly for “meticulous scrutiny, objective assessment and speedy passage” of the budget.

He said the 2024 budget tagged: “The Budget of Consolidation and Economic Recovery” would focus on completion of ongoing capital projects across the state.

The 2024 budget has a total sum of N217billion to service both capital and recurrent expenditures.

The governor said in line with the oversight function, the Assembly had made some adjustments thereby making it more realistic, bringing the budget to a total of N216.9billion.
