NIS Decorates 76 Senior Officers

The Nigeria Immigration Service, Osun State Command has on Wednesday decorated 76 newly promoted Senior Immigration Officers.

Held at the NIS headquarters in Osogbo, the event was the largest of decoration of senior officers of the NIS in the South-West outside of Lagos.

The officers were decorated with their new ranks ranging from Inspector of Immigrations (II) to Assistant Comptroller of Immigrations (ACI) in front of families, friend and colleagues.

Present at the occasion were the State Commissioner of Police, Comptroller of the Nigeria Prison Service (NPS) in the state; State Commandante, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Osun Corp Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Addressing the newly decorated officers, the state Comptroller of NIS, Mr Adewale Idowu, congratulated the officers, reminding them that more is being committed to their hands, hence, they should rise up to the occasion.

Mr Idowu who noted that the promotion of the senior officers was an appreciation of their services in the state command and the Nigeria Immigration Service as a whole, he was optimistic that their elevation would spur them to do more considering that their schedule of duty will change due to their new portfolios.

The NIS boss who acknowledged the tremendous support from the Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, said the support has fostered free service delivery in the state command.

Noting that the service is at the forefront of tackling the Fulani Herdsmen threat in the country, he said it is one of the statutory responsibilities of the service to control and regulate inflow and outflow of persons within the country.

He also noted that there has been appreciable improvement in the NIS, ranging from passport issuance and such other functions, saying these improvements could be attributed to the dynamism of the incumbent Comptroller General of the NIS, Mr Mohammad Babandede.

Also, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye charged the newly-promoted senior officers not to be negligence in their services, rather they should give more, saying, more burden of service has now been placed on them.

Speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, the most senior of them, Mr Kehinde Jimoh who was promoted to the rank ACI, noted that the promotion would boost his morale and that of his colleagues thereby encouraging them to do more.

He appreciated the efforts of the Comptroller General and the Osun Comptroller of the service who deemed it fit to have officers of the NIS promoted at this point in time, just as he pledged his absolute commitment and that of his colleagues in the service.
