Ahead of the November 11 gubernatorial election, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the redeployment of the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Stephen Olanrewaju.
The IGP made the announcement on Sunday on Channels Television’s People’s Townhall on Election Security.
He said, “I am aware that there have been allegations on social media against the Commissioner of Police in Imo State but for this election, we are changing the commissioner of police in Imo.”
Osun Defender had reported that the Organised Labour including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress accused Olanrewaju of complicity in the recent attack on NLC President, Joe Ajaero, in Owerri, the Imo State capital, last week.
Ajaero was arrested during a rally against the treatment of workers in the state by the state government.
He claimed in a video after his release that he was brutalized during his time in the police custody with the NLC saying he might be flown abroad for treatment.
While also blaming the state Governor Hope Uzodimma for the attack on Ajaero, the Organised Labour gave the Federal Government a five-day ultimatum to replace the police commissioner.
