The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has slammed the Kano State House of Assembly over its attempt to impeach Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, describing it as a “desperate” and “cannibalistic” move by a “dying political class.”

NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, described the move as a “desperate” and “cannibalistic” act by a “dying political class” that has lost its soul.

Johnson alleged that Gwarzo is being persecuted for refusing to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the deputy governor has chosen the path of honour by remaining true to Kano voters and the party.

“The Deputy Governor is being persecuted for a singular ‘offence,’ which is his refusal to join the bandwagon of those who have betrayed the sacred mandate given by the people of Kano to the NNPP,” he said.

Johnson also accused the Kano State House of Assembly of embracing a system where the law is “weaponised to devour the very people it should protect,” adding that the impeachment bid is a “transparent attempt to pave the way for the complete APC takeover of a mandate they could not win at the polls.”

He appealed to Kano residents to remain calm, stressing that “you cannot impeach the truth,” and warning that “2027 is closer than it appears” for politicians involved in the impeachment bid.

“The party has vowed to stand firm against the legislative rascality, and our unwavering support for Gwarzo and the people of Kano State, who freely gave their mandate to the NNPP in 2023 for a period of four years, stands,” he added.
