NNPP Denies Claims That Tinubu, APC Are Behind Party Litigation
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has dismissed allegations by the Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso-led faction that President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are sponsoring the party’s ongoing court cases.
In a statement on Tuesday, NNPP National Secretary, Mr Ogini Olaposi, in Lagos said the litigation and defections within the party are the result of Kwankwaso’s “high-handedness” and attempts to hijack the party.
The party’s response followed comments by Buba Galadima and his supporters accusing President Tinubu and the APC of fuelling court actions to block Kwankwaso’s takeover. NNPP called the claims “lazy and empty blackmail which is dead on arrival.”
“Was it Tinubu that made Kwankwaso, the NNPP 2023 presidential candidate, attempt to hijack a party that gave him a free ticket to run?” the statement asked.
The NNPP added that the expelled Kwankwaso faction has continued legal action to seize control of the party, causing defections among members.
“We condemn in its entirety the blackmail of President Tinubu and the APC and state emphatically that it is unfounded, mischievous, and a figment of lazy minds,” the statement said.
The party urged members who left for other parties to return, describing NNPP as “the beautiful bride of the 2027 general elections.”
It reminded members that the 2025 national convention resolved to grant automatic tickets to loyal elected officials and encouraged them to participate in rebuilding the party.
NNPP said e-registration of members has commenced in line with INEC guidelines for 2027, stressing that its focus is on strengthening the party and serving Nigerians, not engaging in political fights.
“NNPP is a sister political party to all registered parties in Nigeria and is committed to contributing positively to the nation’s progress. Our goal remains to offer service to the people of Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
