No Reason To Be A Begger, Unemployed In Osun – Govt

The State Government of Osun under the leadership of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has posited that no able-bodied person in the State should have any reason to be begging or be unemployed.

The government attributed this to the several empowerment programmes it has embarked on as ways of reducing poverty and unemployment in the state.

This was contained in a release issued at the end of the weekly Executive Council Meeting and signed by the Media Adviser to the Governor, Mr. Sola Fasure

According to the release, ” Council will like the people of the State of Osun to know that government has put in place several empowerment programmes in agriculture like food cropping, chicken rearing and piggery, among others. Many of these opportunities are underutilised.

“Council therefore urged young people, especially the unemployed, to be engaged in any of these. No able bodied person in the state should have any reason to be unemployed or engage in begging.”

The State Government also approved a bill titled, “the State of Osun Independent Electoral Commission Bill, 2017’ and directed that it be presented to the House of Assembly as a bill to be passed into law.

Decrying the unpleasant and unattractive appearance of State primary schools’ pupils, the State Government urged parents to get new school wears for their children and wards.

“Council received report of the tattered look of pupils in the state’s public schools with dismay. Many pupils wear ill-fitting, old and dirty uniforms. This should not be so. School pupils are expected to wear neat, fitting and smart uniforms. This is failure on the part of the parents first.

“Council enjoins parents to buy new uniforms for their children and ensure that they leave for school in the best physical shape in a way that inspires confidence in them and equally buoys their self confidence. Teachers are also required to take responsibility for the physical look of their wards.

“Council directed that the Community Based Management Committees of public schools be visited and their effectiveness evaluated. Appropriate actions should be taken based on the outcome of this evaluation.

“Council exhaustively deliberated on a proposed bill titled: ‘State of Osun Independent Electoral Commission Bill, 2017’. This document has 86 chapters that cut across various issues relating to the conduct of local government elections in the state.

“Council approved the document and directed that it be presented to the State House of Assembly as Executive Bill to be passed into law.” The release reads in part.
