NSCDC Arrests 38 Illegal Immigrants In Ekiti
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ekiti State Command, has arrested and paraded 38 Ghanaian nationals described as illegal immigrants residing in the state.
The State Commandant, Mr Enya Toma, disclosed this while parading the suspects at the command headquarters along Ado–Ikere Road.
He said the group, comprising 13 females and 25 males, was allegedly brought into Nigeria under the pretence of securing employment opportunities abroad.
According to him, the suspects were arrested along the Onala, Aafo Road area of Ado-Ekiti. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were allegedly made to pay between $1,000 and $2,000 each to facilitate their movement from Ghana to Nigeria.
Toma further alleged that upon arrival, they were kept in seclusion and pressured to recruit other unsuspecting individuals from Ghana in exchange for commission.
He added that the syndicate operates in Ekiti and maintains links in Lagos, Oyo and Ondo states.
One of the victims, Chris Santos, 18, claimed he was deceived with a promise of employment in Australia.
Meanwhile, Gyabaah Isaac, 30, identified as a leader of the group, said they were affiliated with an online wellness marketing outlet based in Malaysia.
