In preparation for Saturday’s governorship election in the State of Osun, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, has deployed 11,226 officers to cover the 3,763 polling units, collation centres, flash points as well as critical national assets and infrastructure across the local government areas of the state.
In a statement, the Director, Public Relations, NSCDC Headquarters, Abuja, DCC Olusola Odumosu said the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Audi, ordered the deployment of the personnel derived from the national headquarters and nine State Commands; Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Kogi and Edo to supply manpower for the election.
He explained that the operatives deployed had attended various workshops on best practices during election as well as due familiarisation with the provisions of the Electoral Act as regards to Rules of Engagement, and will comply with the Corps’ Operational Code, Standard Operating Procedure and display the high sense of discipline and professionalism throughout the election.
The statement also quotes Dr. Audi as assigning Deputy Commandant General (DCG) in charge of Operations, Dauda Mungadi to oversee the election exercise, with the support of Assistant Commandant General (ACG) Operations, Philip Ayuba, Zonal Commander (Zone J), Fasiu Adeyinka and Commandant Special Duties, Oliver Ugwuja to serve as field commanders monitoring each senatorial district of the state.
The NSCDC reiterated the Corps’s readiness to partner sister agencies to ensure a hitch-free poll and to guarantee crime-free environment to enable eligible voters exercise their voting rights.
