NSCDC Recovers N120m In Four Years

The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has revealed that it recovered the sum of N120 million in the last four years, adding that the money was recovered from various corruption-related cases.

The NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, made this known on Wednesday at the inauguration of ACTU Heads in state commands, zonal and colleges/academies of the corps.

Audi said, “ACTU has made some remarkable impact in its fight against corruption. Between 2018 and now, ACTU has recovered over one hundred and twenty million naira from various corruption-related cases.

“There has also been an appreciable reduction in cases of job racketeering owing to ACTU mounted enlightenment campaigns.”

He also noted that the coming of the anti-graft unit has stopped the old order of distribution of promotion on the basis of favouritism.

He said, “For instance, it is no longer a routine to distribute corps goods, promotion and position on the basis of favouritism. We have dismantled favouritism and other crass sentiments in the corps, while we promote competence and professionalism.

“I have always encouraged the ACTU in its effort to strengthen the corps’ internal accountability and integrity system and promote ethical behaviour in all processes and procedures, and among the rank and file of our personnel.

“I have whole-heartedly endorsed ACTUs resolute commitment to promoting and enforcing our code of ethics based on extant statutory Anti-corruption guidelines.”

He, therefore, urged the new ACTU heads across the NSCDC formation to be anti-corruption ambassadors.

He added, “I would like to see new vigour and greater commitment in the discharge of your responsibilities. You must not leave any stone unturned in ensuring that NSCDC at your various commands is one hundred per cent ethics and transparency compliant.”

On his part, the Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practice and Other Related Offences Commission, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, urged the NSCDC management to continue to support ACTU as it’s work is beneficiary to the corps.

Owasanoye said, “I implore the management not to see the ACTU as an enemy, but as an ally whose activity would be beneficial to the corp and to continue to support and empower the unit to discharge its functions efficiently by providing a conducive work environment for it to function, funding for its activities as well as incorporating the unit members in various standing committees as contained in the extant circular of government Ref No: OHCSF/SPSO/CSTD/314/T2/61 dated 5th October, 2016.”

The ICPC boss also urge the main and sub-unit nominees not to betray the confidence reposed in them.

He added, “Avoid any questionable act given the strategic role you are expected to play. Remember, to whom much is given, much is expected.”
