NTA Workers Protest Alleged Allowance Cuts, Poor Welfare
Tension has erupted at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Birnin Kebbi station as workers accuse the newly deployed General Manager, Ali Garba, of sidelining staff welfare and treating employees unfairly.
Staff members, who spoke on condition of anonymity, alleged that allowances approved by the authority’s headquarters for special outside broadcasts and official assignments are being drastically reduced, with some workers reportedly receiving between ₦1,000 and ₦2,000.
The aggrieved employees said the alleged neglect recently manifested during the just-concluded fishing festival, where a staff member reportedly collapsed while on duty.
According to them, instead of being taken to a hospital for proper medical attention, the affected worker was allegedly rushed to a nearby patent medicine store in a bid to cut costs.
They warned that continued disregard for staff welfare could pose serious risks to workers’ health and safety, urging the national headquarters of NTA to intervene without delay.
One of the employees said, “We give our best to the station, but our welfare is ignored. If this continues, it will affect both morale and productivity.”
The development has reportedly generated widespread discontent among staff, who insist that urgent steps must be taken to restore confidence and guarantee fair treatment.
