NURTW adopts e-Tracking On Highway

 

 

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has agreed to adopt electronic means to track members vehicles to address the spate of insecurity on expressways/highways.

The union made this known during its National Executive Council meeting (NEC) held at the Union Zone II Secretariat, Ikirun road, Osogbo, State of Osun.

The Union said the move became necessary and fundamental so as to ensure the safety of her members, passengers and goods.

Comrade Tajudeen Baruwa, the Narional President of the union after the NEC meeting told journalists that the union has lost many members to banditry, kidnappers and unexpected attacks.

He said, “The council, after series of deliberations and consultations from stakeholders across board considered e-tracking of its members vehicles so as to reduce the spate of crime and ensure adequate security for all.

“This will also help us to alert our members of impending dangers”.

Baruwa admonished members to be security conscious. He lamented on the issue of insecurity in the country and that they don’t want to loose their members anyone.

Baruwa also said, “NURTW is set to commence 200 housing scheme in each of the States of the federation for its members in a bid to address accommodation crises of members”.

Baruwa condemned the decision of Oyo, Ogun and Ondo State Governors for banning their Union in their States.

He said that, “we are seriously on it, and if they fail to lift or reverse the ban, the union will not hesitate to drag the government to court.

He called on the Federal Government to consider NURTW to benefit from the ongoing Survival Fund initiated to cushion the effect of COVID-19.
