A University Don, Professor Oka Obono, of the University of Ibadan has advised the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to consider splitting its members across the 16 countries of the Economic Community of West African States, sequel to one of the suggestions that emerged at NYSC top management retreat, held in Niger.
Professor Obono sighted region exposure as one of the advantages of Nigerian corps members deployed across the West African sub-region.
“Also, it will bring about vast reduction of unemployment among the youths”, he said.
He advised further that all stakeholders should embrace expansion strategies that would be of benefit to the youths and the country at large.
โExpand operations to the West African region thereby reducing internal graduate unemployment and reducing pressures on the Nigerian labour market”, Prof Obono explained further.
The don who commended the NYSC Director General, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim for his leadership approach, also maintained that inter-ethnic distrust is the bedrock of the countryโs problem.
Lastly, he advised that high level of diplomacy must be adopted to positively engage the unlearned youths who are potential threats to the peaceful coexistence of the country.
