The convocation ceremony of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, was marred by traffic congestion on Thursday forcing some parents and guests to trek to the ceremony venue.

The gridlock, which lasted for several hours, was attributed to the large number of vehicles attempting to access the university campus.

Despite efforts by security personnel to manage the traffic, the situation remained chaotic, with many parents and guests opting to abandon their vehicles and trek to the venue.

“I arrived at the campus entrance at 10 am, but I didn’t get to the venue until 12 pm,” said Mrs. Oyinlola, a parent who was affected by the situation.

“The traffic was terrible, and I had to trek for over a kilometer to get to the venue.”

In spite of the challenges, the ceremony continued, with graduates receiving their degrees in various disciplines.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simeon Bamire, congratulated the graduands on their achievement and urged them to be good ambassadors of the university.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, marked by performances from the university’s cultural troupes.

As the graduates celebrated their achievement, many parents and guests were left to reflect on the challenges posed by the traffic congestion and the need for improved infrastructure to support the university’s growing population.
