Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, have defeated the University of Ibadan and other universities to emerge as the overall winner in the Lead City Voices Intervarsity Debate.
It was learnt that the debate was held at Lead City University, Ibadan, on Thursday, March 21st, 2024.
OAU was represented by the students of the University who are Ifeoluwa Odeyemi and Sophia Afolayan and coached by Isreal Ajake and Ademiposi Ogunba.
Following three intense rounds of debating, which included an impromptu finale, OAU stood out with 91.7%, above LASU with 86.24%, and UI with 86.08%, with the hosts coming closely fourth.
The University also clinched the award of the Overall Best Speaker for one of their speakers.
However, in a statement on Saturday by the leadership of the Great Ife Students Union which was signed by the President, Abbas Akinremi congratulated the University debaters, the coaches, and all Students for the giant stride.
“We also want to use this medium to celebrate all debaters and lovers of oratory prowess, for their love and support for the big stage (speaking),” the statement added.
