OAU Inaugurates Students’ Union Officers
The authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, inaugurated the newly elected officers of the Great Ife Students’ Union for the 2023–2024 academic session on Thursday.
The inauguration was held at Oduduwa Hall and attended by top university officials, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adebayo Simeon Bamire, the Chief Imam of OAU Central Mosque, Prof. Abubakar Abefe Sanusi, Chaplain, Rev. Segun Oyetunde, and the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. John Odedire.
In his address, Prof. John Odedire, the Dean of Student Affairs, advised the new union officers to be diligent and consult widely to avoid mistakes in their duties.
Professor Simeon Bamire, the Vice-Chancellor, urged the central executive council of the Students’ Union to uphold good values and conduct while leading their fellow students.

Similarly, the university’s Chief Imam, Prof. Abubakar Sanusi, and Chaplain, Rev. Segun Oyetunde, encouraged the Students’ Union leaders to guide their colleagues to the right path.
In his inaugural address tagged “New Dawn: The Growth of Greatness, the Redefined Pursuit of Excellent Unionism,” the newly elected President of the Union, Omoboriowo Damilola, expressed gratitude to the university management and other students’ union leaders for their support.
He also acknowledged the contributions of university officials to students’ education, research, and the university’s development.
Dr. Bush outlined his administration’s plans to enhance students’ lives, with a focus on improving the cleanliness of halls of residence and mental health initiatives.
He emphasised the importance of unity and proactive problem-solving in achieving the university’s greatness through collective effort.
