OAU Postpones SRC Election

The Electoral Commission of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife has postponed the Students’ Representative Councils’ election earlier expected to be held today (Friday) till tomorrow (Saturday), due to logistic reasons.

This was revealed in a statement released by the Students’ Union’s Electoral Commission signed by its Chairman, Taofeek Ogunperi, and Damilare Olayinka, its General Secretary, on Thursday.

In the statement, the OAU Electoral Commission noted that the election was postponed due to the challenges that need to be addressed to ensure a smooth and fair process.

According to the statement, “The Electoral Commission wishes to inform all students and candidates that the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) elections scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, June 28, 2024, have been postponed. The new date for the elections is Saturday, June 29, 2024.

“This decision was made in consideration of unforeseen logistical challenges that need to be addressed to ensure a smooth and fair electoral process. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all students.

“We assure the public that this postponement is necessary to uphold the integrity and transparency of the electoral process. All measures are being taken to ensure that the elections on Saturday, June 29, 2024, will be conducted efficiently and securely.”
