Students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, have bemoaned scarcity of water that has rocked the institution since three days ago.
In an exclusive interview with our correspondent on Friday, students in their hundreds blamed the school management and lamented that taps in the institution had not supplied enough water.
A 200-level student from department of English, Adejumo Kabir said, ” If truly, OAU management do not want the school to be portrayed in bad light, the issue of water scarcity needs to stop.
“Suffering and smiling, while parents are experiencing fuel scarcity at home, students as well lack available water supply.
“For over 48 hours, no water and not even a circular from authority as regards the menace. As I speak, I have not taken my bath for 3 days and sachet water has denied me of mouth odour. If not, the odour would have caused virus. The university management needs to do the needful.”
Also, a student from department of Biology Education, Habib Gidado, who spoke with the Osun Defender, said that the students trekked many kilometres every morning looking for water.
He said the problem was compounded by the dry season which, he said, had occasioned dry wells, adding that there might be epidemic if the scarcity persisted.
