After the expiration of two weeks suspension of the Students’ Union President, of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile- Ife, Oyekan Ibukun and the Financial Secretary, Omisakin Kehinde, the duo have apologised publicly to students of the university.
The two executive members were recently suspended by the union Students’ Representatives Council over alleged constitutional breaches in the procurement of the controversial Union Bus.
Omisakin in his apology said, if the process that led to the procurement of the bus had been more transparent, the controversy that generated would not have occurred.
He said, “While I am committed to ensuring this does not happen again, I strongly believe the best apology I could ever tender is to be open and transparent in all financial dealings henceforth. To that effect, a copy of the union’s income and expenditures from inauguration till date will be made available before the end of the week along with statement of account”, Omisakin said.
Also, the President of the Union, Oyekan Ibukun, in his apology statement promised not to make future procedural error.
“No one is happier than I am that the bus purchased is being investigated by a committee set up by the house.
He further reiterated his earlier position that if he is found to have committed any financial crime; he would not hesitate to step down as president.
It would be recalled that the SRC has setup an investigative committee to vigilantly scrutinize the purchase of the bus which has divided students of the institution.
