The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has decorated the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, as the Grand Ambassador of War Against Drug Abuse in Edo.
This is in recognition of his strategic role in the fight against drug use and trafficking.
The State Commander of NDLEA, Bubs Bakawa, who decorated the monarch in his Palace in Benin, told him that some individuals are still neck-deep in the cultivation of Indian hemp in the State.
Bakawa, who lamented the dangerous effects of illicit drug use and trafficking amongst youths, explained that the monarch’s contribution in the fight against trafficking would help ameliorate the scourge.
Responding, the royal father affirmed that the battle against the eradication of hard substances and peddling could be achieved only through collaborative efforts of both traditional institutions, security agencies, individuals and organizations.
Oba Ewuare II posited that since the throne was keen at ensuring a crime-free State, it would do its best to champion the fight against illicit drug use and trafficking both at home and in the diaspora.
