Obidients Slam Bwala Over Claim Obi Won’t Get Party Ticket
Supporters of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, known as the Obidients, have slammed Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, over his claim that Obi would not secure the ticket of any political party in the 2027 presidential election, vowing to resist any attempt to stop him from being on the ballot.
Bwala, while speaking on Channels Television on Wednesday, alleged that the former Anambra State Governor might only serve as Director-General for a coalition-backed African Democratic Congress.
He further claimed that Obi had lost over 50% of his voters from 2023 and predicted that President Tinubu would secure up to two million votes from the South East in 2027.
He said, “He’s not going to get a ticket in any of the parties. He might not even get the vice presidential ticket. He has lost more than 50% of his votes because they were built on rhetoric and division. President Bola Tinubu is going to get up to two million votes in the South East.”
Reacting, Abia State Coordinating Council Collegiate team member of the movement, Dr Chibuzor Obiesili, described Bwala’s statement as suspicious and challenged the presidency to clarify it.
“Is Bwala now telling Nigerians that the presidency determines who gets a party ticket in 2027?” he asked.
Obiesili dismissed the claim of voter loss as “wishful thinking and empty political hallucination,” insisting Obi’s support was growing nationwide.
“Bwala should stop hallucinating; Obi is not losing but gaining more support. His national appeal is so organic that even those who were not part of it before are now among the key drivers,” he said.
He noted that states and regions that did not support Obi in 2023 are now joining the movement, with many Nigerians “who were deceived by APC’s fake change” becoming Obidients.
“2023 was an Obi wave, but 2027 shall be an Obi tsunami. The eyes of voters have opened; they now know that the change promised by APC is not real change; it’s a chain,” he stated.
Obiesili maintained that nobody was more qualified for the presidency than Obi, accusing the presidency of being unsettled by Obi’s rising popularity.
He argued that the movement’s push was about building a new Nigeria based on accountability, transparency, and performance, and warned the presidency against making “false claims” about Tinubu’s chances in the South East.
“Bwala’s claims of two million votes for Tinubu in the South East are as suspicious as Dr Nicolas Felix’s boast of 15 million votes for the President. Tinubu lost the South East in 2023, and his policies have not improved lives in the region or anywhere else to warrant such numbers,” Obiesili added.
