TWO drivers whose vehicles were involved in the accident that occurred at Ode-Omu, State of Osun, few weeks ago have been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate Court.
It would be recalled that the accidents claimed lives of 16 people among who are children. One of the vehicles and the passengers were burnt to death.
The drivers, Ezekiel Adebayo (31) and Jimoh Jelili, were brought before the court on a four-count charge bordering on dangerous driving and manslaughter.
Adebayo, the driver in charge of a Lexus jeep with registration number: Lagos LSR 304 HW was accused of driving in a dangerous manner which led to a collision with a Mazda bus with registration number Lagos APP 834 XI which led to an explosion caused by a gas cylinder inside the bus.

Those who lost their lives in the accident included, Ajoke Egbewole, Jumoke Lateefat Adeogun, Dare Ewaoluwa, Dare Iyadunni, Adeosun Adeola, Monsurat Adebimpe Ayansina and Adefunke Suliyat Alamulu and other eight victims whose identity could not be ascertained.
According to the charge sheet obtained by OSUN DEFENDER, the incident happened at about 18:15hrs at Ode-Omu market area.
The offence, according to the police contravened, Section 18 of Cap 146, Vol.II, Laws of Osun State, 2002 and Section 27 of RTA, Cap 548, Laws of Nigeria.
But the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In his ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Dr. Olusegun Ayilara, admitted the drivers to bail in sum of N500,000 with one surety each.
The case was adjourned till July 7, 2023.
