The Chairman, Odo-Otin South Local Council Development Area, Mrs Bibitayo Ajala has advocated cordial relationships between political functionaries and career officers for effective service delivery.
She stated this recently during a day workshop organized by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Odo-Otin South branch.
The council boss noted that political functionaries and career officers are like Siamese twins that cannot be separated because they play inseparable roles when it comes to policy making and policy implementation for better and effective service delivery to the people.
Noting that the seminar was necessary, as no amount spent on intellectual development is a waste, she was optimistic that there will be change of attitude to work and a better relationship.
Ajala who stressed that her administration places much importance on staff training and development, she said it is one of the bases for effective service delivery, urging the council workers to reciprocate the gesture.
The guest speaker, Mr Akande Oyelakin explained that local government is the closest government to the people, saying the kind of relationship that exist among functionaries would directly affect the people at the local level.
According to him, one of the major roles of a career staff is to advise his political master and ensure that policies of government are faithfully implemented.
The NULGE President, Comrade Jacob Adeyeye also advised staff members to be punctual and dedicated to their work, just as he hinted that the Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has promised to pay all salary arrears of the workers.
Another speaker, Mrs Oke A. A enlightened the participants on healthy living, urging then to be vigilant and take good care of their health through what they eat and also they should take care of their environment among others.
She said out of the 24 hours in a day, the first 8hours is meant for sleeping, the second is for daily work while the third is for recreation and diversion therapy to reimburse the day’s work.
The NULGE Chairman of Odo-otin South LCDA, Comrade Najeem Adeleke, appreciated the Governor and the council’s authority for their support and participation.
He was optimistic that the training would guarantee change of attitude to work by the council workers.
